How to Install Hercules Glass Top Hung Sliding Doors

In this guide, we show you how to install a Hercules glass top hung sliding door.

This is easier than it sounds; you just need to make sure you measure carefully and follow the instructions.

  1. Measure the top of your door frame, both height (H0) and width (L0)

  2. Measure the space next to your door frame, where the opened glass door will sit. Ensure this space is larger than the width of your actual door frame.

  3. The height of your glass door should be 20mm larger than the door frame.

  4. The width of your glass door should be 60mm wider than the width of the door frame.

  5. Measure the track for the top of your door. This should be double the width of the door frame, plus 40mm. Use a hacksaw to trim the track to the required size.

  6. Slide the five wall brackets onto the track. The end brackets should be a maximum of 60mm from the edge, and there should be a maximum of 450mm between each bracket. Ensure there is an equal distance between each bracket.

  7. The bracket should be affixed to the wall, 85mm from the top of the frame.

  8. Use a spirit level to mark a straight line for the track to sit on and fix into place using a drill and the screws provided. For a brick wall, you will need to mark the wall first using a pencil before using a drill to create holes for rawl plugs.

  9. Slide the first stopper into the track, followed by the trolleys and finally the last stopper.

  10. Carefully measure the thickness of the glass door, and choose the appropriate silicone inserts (these should be clearly labelled within your pack)

  11. Remove the backing strips from inside the glass clamp and carefully place the appropriate piece into place, holding them by the edges and not the flat surface. Use an allen key and not fingers to press these into place, one on each side of the clamp.

  12. Use the wipe provided to thoroughly and carefully wipe both sides of the top of your glass door. Use a piece of cardboard to grip the door while doing this – do not put your fingers directly onto the glass.

  13. Use the wipe to also clean the grips inside the glass clamp.

  14. Carefully position the glass clamps on the top of the door. They should be 120-125mm from the outer edges.

  15. Use the allen key to tighten the glass grips, in the order shown in the video for each grip. All fixings should be tightened using a torque wrench to 26Nm.

  16. Once both glass clamps have been tightened appropriately, fix to the trolleys on the bracket. Use a spanner to tighten the nuts, ensuring there is a gap of 9-12mm between the bracket and the top of the glass clamp.

  17. Move the stopper along to the correct position. It should stop the trolley allowing the door to overlap the frame by 30mm.

  18. When fixing the bottom guide, refer to the image in the video at 6 minutes to ensure you use the right fixings.

  19. Screw the fixings into the floor at the base of the door frame.

  20. Measure halfway up the height of the door and 30mm in from the edge to fix the door stopper in place. Again, use the wipe to ensure the glass inside the door is clean and free of fingerprints before removing the backing from the stopper and placing on the inside of the door. This should now stop the door from sliding too far in either direction.

  21. Again, use the wipe to ensure the glass inside the door is clean and free of fingerprints before removing the backing from the stopper and placing on the inside of the door. This should now stop the door from sliding too far in either direction.
